Brown And Milliken Score Victories With FUEL

The summer heat did little to hinder the competitive spirit of the FUEL Racing Series teams as fans in the Carolinas were treated to back to back events this weekend. Series newcomer Dillon Brown kicked off the weekend by capturing his 1st career FUEL victory Friday night at Carolina Speedway while veteran Willie Milliken closed out the weekend with a trip to Victory Lane on Saturday night at Cherokee Speedway.

Series championship leader Steve Banal kicked off the festivities by setting Fast Time in Renegade Race Fuels qualifying at Carolina Speedway. Brown scored the victory in Heat Race #1 while Milliken and Jay Sessoms were victorious in Pro Fabrication and SRI Performance Heat Race action as well.

Brown and Milliken led the field to the green which ignited 17 consecutive laps of uninterrupted side by side action. Brown held Milliken at bay as defending series champion Robbie Emory, Kenny Collins, and Sessoms made their presence felt inside the Top 5. After back to back restart mishaps, the race resumed with 13 laps remaining. Collins refused to let the race leader get away from him while several drivers jockeyed for position throughout the Top 6. The final 13 laps were completed caution free as the Gaffney, SC series rookie scored the win. Collins continued his impressive performances with FUEL by delivering another runner-up finish. Emory, Sessoms, Milliken, and Taylor Puckett (who rallied from 22nd) rounded out the Top 6.

As the series headed to Cherokee Speedway Saturday night, Taylor Puckett continued his momentum from Friday night and captured Renegade Race Fuels Fast Time honors. Steve Banal would ultimately capture Pro Fabrication Heat Race #1 while Dillon Brown scored the win in SRI Performance Heat Race #2. Looking to rebound from a mediocre finish on Friday, Banal wasted no time in moving his 8B to the point at the outset of the main event. Refusing to let the 2017 Series Champion get away from him, Milliken exhausted every effort to chase down the race leader. While the battle for the lead materialized, veteran Ron Parker worked his way into the Top 3. At the same time, defending series champion Robbie Emory was battling an overheating engine and was desperately trying to salvage a Top 10 finish. After numerous attempts, Milliken successfully secured the lead from Banal as Parker, Collins, Brown, and Ricky Weeks all surged towards the front. Parker and Collins would ultimately slide by Banal as the early race leader tried to salvage a Top 5 finish. Milliken went unchallenged in the closing laps and picked up his second series victory of the season. Parker, Collins, Banal, and Brown completed the Top 5.
