Gordon Soars To Emotional Win At Charlotte

(Concord, NC) Relying on his previous experiences, Corey Gordon charged forward from his 8th place starting position, strategically managed his tires and survived a late race charge from Georgia’s Kenny Collins to secure his first FUEL Racing Series victory this past Friday night in the Patriot Nationals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. Gordon’s triumph was understandably an emotional one as he bested 34 other competitors in a thrilling event that featured intense racing throughout the field from start to finish.

After a patriotic 4 wide salute to honor those who have graciously served to protect our country, Michael Batten and Timmy Blackwell led the field to the green. The stars and cars of the FUEL series wasted no time in delivering side by side racing as Batten seized the early race lead while the pursuit began to intensify. Covered with door to door action throughout the field, the smooth and multi-grooved track delivered phenomenal racing action to the delight of the fans.

As the race began to unfold, Batten was fighting to stay ahead of Taylor Puckett who was utilizing the bottom groove and Willie Milliken who was blasting around the top of the speedway. Milliken would eventually take a trip down pit road opening up the door for a battle between Puckett and Gordon. Gordon slipped by Puckett and then vaulted past Batten for the top spot. Though Gordon was able to build a small lead through the middle stages of the race, his path to Victory Lane would not go uncontested. Collins slid by Puckett for 2nd and slowly began to reel in the race leader with under 10 laps to go. Collins pulled to within a single car length of Gordon as the lead duo exited Turn 4 on the final circuit but the Charlotte, NC racer would not be denied his first series victory. Taylor Puckett, series championship point leader Steve Banal, and RJ Otto rounded out the Top 5.

Up next for the FUEL Racing Series is a June 1st trip to County Line Raceway in Elm City, NC.
