SEVERE WEATHER FORECAST FORCES CANCELLATION OF $20,000 TO WIN "KING OF THE COMMONWEALTH" AT VMS
JAMAICA, VA - With the impending severe weather forecast, for the local area and much if not all the East Coast, management of Virginia Motor Speedway, Ultimate Super Late Model Series and FASTRAK Racing have made the difficult decision to cancel the April 20th $20,000 to win King of the Commonwealth.
“With over 3 inches of rain and the forecast for damaging high winds and possible tornado’s this evening and into the early morning hours we have unfortunately made the decision to cancel tomorrows event.” said Virginia Motor owner Bill Sawyer.
Sawyer added, “with the severe weather threat we just can’t predict what is going to happen, so we had to make this decision with the safety of our fans and competitors in mind.”
The local forecast is calling for winds gusting to 75 mph, tornado warnings and three inches of rain. With an already saturated grounds it really makes it a task daunting to get the parking areas and track ready for such a big event.
“Unfortunately, Mother Nature is once again forcing us to make a decision. With the treat of severe weather up and down the East Coast we feel that this is the best decision for the teams, fans and officials, al lot of which are traveling considerable distances to attend the King of the Commonwealth. Above all else, we must keep everyone’s safety in mind,” commented FASTRAK International Companies Vice-President DJ Irvine.
