WEAVER TAKES OPENER IN DRAMATIC FASHION OVER KYLE LEE AT HAGERSTOWN

HAGERSTOWN, MD - Kyle Lee of Mercersburg, Pa., dominated most of the 30-lap Ultimate Northeast Super Late Model Series season opener at the Hagerstown Speedway, but over the final five laps, Justin Weaver of Williamsport, Md., closed the gap that Lee had built significantly and took the lead from Lee with two laps to go and went on to win the $3,000 winners prize. If the race lasted a couple more laps, Weaver may not have made it to the finish as his engine expired on the cool down lap. Weaver had to be pushed to the scales following the finish of the event.

Weaver, who started from the sixth position, worked his way to the front methodically and saw his opportunity to pass Lee while Lee had two lapped cars running directly in front of him. Weaver edged Lee at the line with two laps to go and then drove up in front of Lee in turn three coming to the white flag to completely secure the top spot.

A caution slowed the event on lap 12, as Jakob Piper slowed to a stop on the back stretch. Before the caution flag, Lee had build up a 4.5 second lead over the field from his outside pole starting position.

A heat race incident took two cars out of the event as Kirk Baker and Andy Anderson's cars both got upside down with a lot of damage that wouldn't allow the two drivers to be able to run the rest of the night. Trever Feathers also lost a motor during warm ups and was not able to compete in the event.
