Milliken Soars To Summer Sizzle Victory

(Fayetteville, NC) Overcoming the sizzling heat and keeping a deep field of talent at bay behind him, Willie Milliken scored the $3000 FUEL Racing Series victory over Shawn Sewell and Robbie Emory last night at Fayetteville Motor Speedway’s Summer Sizzle..

In Renegade Race Fuel Time Trials, Shaun Harrell would earn his first pole of the 2018 season with a time of 16.475 seconds. Harrell’s blistering lap would be good enough to establish a brand new FUEL Series pole record at Fayetteville Motor Speedway.

In Hoosier Racing Tire Heat Race #1, Shaun Harrell and Shawn Sewell would lead the field to green. After a close battle early on, Harrell would slide underneath Sewell to secure the lead and earn the heat race win.

FK Rod Ends Heat Race #2 featured Milliken, Ben Watkins, and Ethan Wilson battling for point position. Milliken secured the early lead with Watkins and Wilson waging war for the runner-up spot. Milliken would hold off their challenges to grab the win with Wilson finishing 2nd and Watkins rounding out the Top 3.

In The Direct Racing Industry Virtual Expo Main Event, Milliken and Harrell would lead the field to the green with Milliken surging to the lead from the outside lane. Harrell would have to battle with Shawn Sewell tooth and nail before Sewell would eventually secure the 2nd place position.

As Milliken showed the way, misfortune would strike the championship leader as Watkins fell victim to mechanical failure after contact with Shaun Harrell just before the halfway mark. Watkins was not the only contender that had a strong night end prematurely as Derrick Ramey lost a driveshaft after charging from 11th to 6th.

Avoiding the mishaps, Robbie Emory and Zach Cox took advantage and charged towards the front. Emory would ultimately work his way up to 3rd but could go no further forward. Sewell would give Milliken one last challenge but could not catch the race leader as Milliken would hold on for the win. The victory is Milliken’s 5th career FUEL triumph and his 4th series win at Fayetteville Motor Speedway.

Up next for the FUEL Late Models is a $2500 to win/$275 to start 35 lap event on Friday, June 29th at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, NC.
