PENNINGTON MAKES LATE RACE MOVE OVER ALMOND TO TAKE $2,000 WIN IN THE PRELIMINARY NIGHT OF THE 19TH ANNUAL GEORGIA STATE OUTLAW CHAMPIONSHIP AT SCREVEN

FASTRAK Companies International - By Wesley Outland

SYLVANIA, GA – After being on an almost ninety day hiatus the FASTRAK Racing Series powered by Chevrolet Performance returned to action at the exciting 3/8th mile entitled “Redd’s Playground” the Screven Motor Sports Complex in Sylvania, GA for a double header weekend to decide the 2018 $10,000 champion and put close to the most dominate growing program in crate late model competition. The Friday event would feature a $2000 to win show with purse and the points being tallied to ultimately decide the $10,000 touring champion. When the checkers fell it was #01 Travis Pennington from Stapleton, GA on top of the mountain again picking up his 3rd touring win for FASTRAK on the schedule.

The race would start off with #J1 Joshua Bishop and #00 Carson Ferguson on the front row coming to the green flag, Bishop would jump out into the early lead with Ferguson trailing closely but that was short lived as eventually Ferguson would become mired in traffic and fall back. During this exchange it allowed #7A Corey Almond begun to rally to the front. After a caution displayed on lap 17 for debris on the restart contact would be made with Almond’s let rear corner panel by Bishop, this caused Bishop to spin around exiting turn two causing the caution and sending him to the rear while Almond would claim the point. Throughout the race Almond would lead but had to fend off the hard charges of #1N Jordy Nipper, #18 Trent Ivey, #2N Matthew Nance as he was looking to secure a consistent finish in his run to be the 2018 FASTRAK series champion and yes #01 Travis Pennington who started the race in 11th position struggled in the early going, but once he got to the top shelf that was all he needed to power to the front.

A late race caution would come out with just nine laps to go in the 40 lap Friday feature. On the restart Pennington in fine fashion would use the top of the cushion to his advantage reeling in hungry Almond for the top spot. With six laps to go Pennington would make a daring move from the top to the bottom producing a spectacular slide job then crossover move to relinquish the top position. Almond and Pennington in the closing laps would battle door to door, slide job for slide job, cross over for real estate going for the win, but it just wasn’t enough as it seemed handling or tire wear became a factor for Almond and he’d fade back at the checkers behind Pennington at 1.619 seconds the margin of victory at the stripe when the race concluded. Pennington would claim his 3rd win of the 2018 FASTRAK Racing Series powered by Chevrolet Performance season, 2 wins now at Screven and the Wednesday July 4th at Lavonia, all Pennington’s wins for FASTRAK have came from Georgia facilities. Almond was happy and content with a 2nd place, while Jordy Nipper, Matthew Nance (points leader) had another consistent race for points and Trent Ivey rounded out the top five when Father/Son flag team Jason and Will Dykes waved the double checkers.
